VoIP QoS Metrics

Network R Factor A voice quality measure expressed as a numeric value between 0 and 93. The value of this field is calculated by OPV-PE using a formula that includes packet loss, jitter and other network factors.
User R Factor A voice quality measure expressed as a numeric value between 0 and 93. The value of this field is calculated by OPV-PE using a formula that includes packet loss, jitter, transmission delay and recency.
Estimated MOS – LQ Estimated listener quality expressed as a MOS score. The estimated MOS-LQ maps the combined R-factors to a Mean Opinion Score for listener quality. This estimate does not contemplate the impairments that cause conversational quality problems, such as delay, and can be compared to subjective MOS scores from Absolute Category Rating (ACR) listening tests or to PESQ-LQ scores.
Estimated MOS – CQ Estimated conversation call quality expressed as a MOS score. The estimated MOS-CQ maps the combined R-factors to a Mean Opinion Score for conversational quality. MOS-CQ incorporates factors, such as delay and recency, which affect conversational quality, and implicitly affect listening quality.
Estimated MOS – PQ Estimated PESQ call quality expressed as a MOS score. The MOS-PQ maps the R-factors to the ITU-T standard P.862 (PESQ) end-to-end measure of voice quality using a test signal.
Packets Received Number of packets received by audio channel.
Packets Lost Number of packets lost in the network by audio channel.
Packets Discarded Estimated number of packets discarded by the endpoint jitter buffer by audio channel. This is calculated based on the OPV-PE jitter buffer emulator.
Nominal Packet Loss Rate Nominal packet loss rate in this audio channel, including the network losses and discards.
Burst Count Number of bursts that occurred by audio channel.
Packets Lost in Burst Number of packets lost during all bursts.
Average Burst Length Average length, in milliseconds, for all frame bursts.
Average Burst Density Average burst loss density.
Normalized Delay Average delay incurred during the call. Normalized Delay reflects an accumulative effect of jitter on the call delay. The reported delay is normalized as if the first packet received incurred no transmission/propagation delay -- this value does not reflect transmission delay. Normalized Delay reflects the trend of delay, whereas jitter reflects the instantaneous deviation of the delay.
Jitter Average instantaneous packet delay variation for the packets received on this channel. Jitter is a running average of the absolute value of the variation.
