The OptiView WAN analyzer can be used to identify WAN issues such as virus attacks, new unknown applications, unauthorized access attempts, and irregular traffic patterns. Once identified, undesirable traffic can be eliminated for improved WAN performance, possibly eliminating the need for link upgrades and delivering instant ROI.

Business applications which drive competitiveness require special attention over WAN links since they often introduce the most problems for remote users. OptiView WAN analyzers deliver the necessary flexibility to categorize applications and track their usage by user and over time. This helps to ensure centralized applications can perform over the WAN for remote user productivity.

The information-rich OptiView WAN Analyzer Front Page gives you instant vision into what's happening on your WAN link with easy-to-use drill-down capability into any area by clicking the target of interest.

When a connection is made to an OC3 or OC12 WAN circuit the OptiView WAN Analyzer continuously monitors the SONET/SDH and ATM layers. Link usage is tracked for all auto-discovered VCs, providing utilization, throughput and error statistics. The most utilized or errored VCs are constantly sorted and displayed for you. The advanced discovery system then takes over to provide you with immediate information of all devices using the WAN link as well as RMON statistics, such as Top Applications, Top Talkers, Top Protocols and Top Conversations.

The discovery system differentiates between hosts, servers and interconnect devices such as routers. The discovery system automatically discovers virtual path/virtual circuit pairs for ATM links and detects 35 ATM and Packet over SONET encapsulation types including MPLS.

The Graphical View displays specific VCs or all VC statistics sorted by a number of user selectable criteria including utilization, CRC errors, CLP cells transmitted and many other fields. Any individual VC or an aggregate of all VCs combined may be selected to view more detailed statistics.
