Fluke Networks’ AirCheck Wi-Fi Tester Simplifies Wireless Troubleshooting For University of Colorado
UCCS relies heavily on its wireless network, and in turn depends on a small team of students and staff to keep it all running. Yet troubleshooting daily Wi-Fi problems is difficult without the proper tools and training – all compounded by tight budgets and regular student helpdesk turnover. These challenges make network analysis much more of a guessing game, or require waiting until a team member with the right expertise is available. As a result, the IT department decided it needed a tool like Fluke Networks’ AirCheck Wi-Fi Tester, a tool that was durable and easy to use for troubleshooting in the field.
The University found the AirCheck tester’s push-button simplicity made it easy for even untrained students to use, yet the device’s detailed analysis made it possible to quickly diagnose problems and bring students and staff back on line.
With electronic crime growing in popularity and sophistication, law enforcement agencies require the latest tools to stay one step ahead of criminals. Long gone are the days when all you need is an IP address to find a physical location, or a wire to trace a piece of equipment. Yet officers are required to handle this aspect of investigation every day, in harsh environments, and often with little training. The Police Department in Martinez, CA is no exception, and was looking for a compact, rugged, cost-effective and simple tool to use in the field – a tool like the AirCheck Wi-Fi Tester from Fluke Networks.
The Martinez PD found that the AirCheck tester met all of its requirements for a reliable and easy to use piece of field equipment, quickly becoming an indispensible tool for the investigation of electronic crime.
With diverse hospital customers spread across North America, providing wireless connectivity for critical medical equipment is literally a life and death matter for Hospira. In addition, the company also has an R&D test facility that has been purposely engineered to represent a hostile network environment, allowing teams to push their solutions to the limit with real-world threats and conditions. Because of these facts, the company wanted a tool like Fluke Networks’ AirCheck Wi-Fi Tester that was fast, efficient and incredibly easy to use for testing wireless connectivity.
Hospira found the AirCheck tester not only cost less and could do more than other tools – often solving troublesome problems in minutes – but that it was also so simple to use, that remote clinical staff with no IT background could work the device.
Cerner discovers a healthier way to troubleshoot wireless networks with AirCheck.
Cerner is one of the world’s leading suppliers of healthcare information technologies for hospitals and clinics. With more than 8,000 clients worldwide, they are on the forefront of electronic medical record systems to meet the needs of both health care providers and patients. Wireless access is now an essential component of almost any system’s infrastructure.
As Senior Technology Architect, Ben Bolin leads a team that is involved in both designing systems from scratch, as well as troubleshooting existing systems.
AirCheck™ Wi-Fi Tester keeps scientists connected at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center
Since it was founded in 1975, The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle has grown into a broad-based biomedical research institute, with an international reputation for pioneering work in cancer and infectious disease. Organized around 120 Principal Investigators, this highly decentralized organization has two dozen IT departments. The largest of these groups, Center IT, supports both the Clinical Research and Administration Divisions. Four technicians support 1800 users with 1900 computers, 380 of those laptops.
The Hutchinson Center makes a wireless network available to all employees. While Center IT does not spend a lot of time on wireless issues, it does field user complaints, handle configurations for new users and guests, and as the organization grows, addresses infrastructure issues. Armed with the AirCheck Wi-Fi Tester and a list of their most common wireless challenges, the Center’s IT team set out to troubleshoot these issues.

AirCheck reduces Wi-Fi troubleshooting incidents from hours to minutes at Eastside Catholic School.
Having wireless access is very popular with both the students and staff at Eastside Catholic School. Yet, according to Brad Pritchett, the school’s Information Technology Manager: “Wireless is a challenge. You’re never quite sure what’s happening with Wi-Fi.”
Problems he currently encounters include interference, users not being able to connect, weak signals, and intermittent access.
Brad used to lug around his laptop and use specialized Wi-Fi software to troubleshoot. But these days Brad can put the Fluke Networks AirCheck Wi-Fi Tester in his pocket and go.
